In April, Samsung proudly won a 2025 Webby Award for its “Open Always Wins” docuseries, which was named “Best of the Internet” in the Video & Film, Sports category.
The three-part film series, which premiered on the Road to Paris 2024, explores the iconic subcultures of each sport, their shared belief in openness and the impact that being part of the Olympic Games has on their communities — past, present and future.
It was produced in partnership with the World Surf League (WSL), Street League Skateboarding (SLS), and the Pro Breaking Tour (PBT), who helped Samsung vividly capture the originality and passion of each sport, its athletes, and its fans.
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor,” The Webby Awards, now in their 29th year, are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet.
“Concrete Dreams” and “Breaking Boundaries” premiered in April 2024, and “The Next Wave” was released in May, timed to coincide with the 2024 WSL Tahiti Open. In addition to dedicated screenings for skateboarding, breaking, and surfing communities, the films were shared across Samsung and the League’s owned platforms, were covered by top-tier media, and aired on Eurosport last summer.
The project was a key part of Samsung’s Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 campaign “Open always wins,” which claims that with an open mind, anything is possible — a motto these communities live by every day.
“Samsung isn’t just shaping the Internet—they’re redefining it,” said Nick Borenstein, General Manager of The Webby Awards. “This honor celebrates the fearless creativity and sharp execution that make their work an unmistakable force online.”
"'Open always wins' is a campaign inspired by the stories of those who break the mold and challenge themselves in new ways," said Stephanie Choi, vice president of marketing at Samsung Electronics' MX Division, adding, "This Webby win is especially meaningful as it truly celebrates the athletes and communities at the heart of each sport and we are so proud that the films, and their message, resonated not only with Webby voters, but with the surfing, skateboarding and breaking communities as well.”
Samsung will be honored at the 29th Annual Webby Awards in New York City on May 12th during a star-studded ceremony hosted by comedian Ilana Glazer.
A Worldwide Partner since 1998, this year’s Webby win marks Samsung’s first-ever Webby award for its Olympic programming. It also marks the third consecutive award for the "Open Always Wins” docuseries, which took home a Platinum MUSE award (Branded Content, Sports) and a Bronze Sports Clio award (Branded Entertainment/Content, Film) earlier this year.
Anyone can watch all three parts of the docuseries, “Concrete Dreams,” “Breaking Boundaries,” and “The Next Wave,” on Samsung’s YouTube channel.
