Unique mentoring workshop inspires the next generation of photography lovers, Usain Bolt attends final exhibition in Kingston

SEOUL, Korea - May 20, 2013 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. recently joined forces with the Usain Bolt Foundation (UBF) to help aspiring young photographers in Jamaica achieve their dream of a future career in photography by giving them the opportunity to take part in an exclusive workshop led by world renowned photographer, David Alan Harvey.

Working closely with the Jamaican schools network, Samsung and the UBF invited the 25 most passionate and promising young photographers to attend the three day workshop designed to help take their photography to the next level through a series of intimate seminars and practical sessions with David himself. Joining David were five international Samsung NX Mentors, professional photographers recruited by Samsung via its official Facebook page, to provide further guidance to the students as well as picking up a few tips for themselves! As part of the unique experience, each of the 25 students was given the brand new Samsung NX300 SMART Camera to use throughout the workshop and beyond, assisting them in their pursuit of a future career as a professional photographer.

Over the course of the three days, the students learned about key photographic elements such as composition, lighting and aspect, before putting their newly learned skills to the test in the field at a variety of top locations around Jamaica including Usain Bolt’s training facility at the University of West Indies in Kingston. The culmination of the workshop was an exclusive exhibition for friends and family of the students entitled “SHOT by SHOT: A Photographic Journey of 25 Dreamers”, held at the prestigious Devon House in Kingston. Among those in attendance was Usain Bolt himself, who was extremely impressed with the quality of work on display:

“The Samsung NX Junior Photographer project is such a good opportunity for Jamaica’s youth and it's great to see these talented students being given the chance to learn from the very best. Their passion for photography and life can be seen in every one of these wonderful photos, all shot on the NX300, and I’m sure I could pick up a few tips from them myself,” said Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world and six times Olympic Gold Medal Winner. “Being able to turn your dreams into reality is something I know a bit about myself and I have no doubt we will be seeing many on these guys on the global stage very soon."

The NX300 is the perfect companion for any aspiring photographer thanks to key features including a super-fast, accurate Hybrid Auto Focus system and 1/6000 sec shutter speed for capturing even life’s most fleeting moments. The NX300’s faster than ever dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity also lets you upload your photos straight to social networking sites or send them to your smartphone simply and easily with its AutoShare function, right from the camera. The NX300 features an elegant retro modern design and is available in brown, white and black.

"We're honored to be working with the Usain Bolt Foundation, David Alan Harvey and most importantly, the gifted group of aspiring photographers here today," said Young Dae Sin, Head of Samsung Miami Branch. "At Samsung, we always strive to share our expertise with those who have a passion for photography. The NX300 is the perfect partner for those who value high quality images, unlocking the creative potential in its users and through the guidance of Mr Harvey and the Photo Mentors, we are more than confident that these 25 students will continue to shoot and share outstanding images on their NX300s for many years to come."
