[Music Share]

Q. What is Music Share?
Connecting to Bluetooth can sometimes be a hassle, especially during the process of pairing and searching for a device. You also need to make sure your smartphone is disconnected from a previously connected device. Music Share is a feature that makes sharing easy. It allows you to easily search for and sync to your friend’s Bluetooth, while they are already connected.

Q. How do you run Music Share?
There are two ways. The first method is to enter your Bluetooth settings, and your friend’s Bluetooth device can be searched automatically. The second method is to enter your media panel, and a Music Share button will pop up. Once you click on this button, you can search for your friend’s Bluetooth device.

Q. Is my personal information safe when using Music Share?
When using Music Share, a search takes place between your smartphone and your friend’s phone, which might pose a security risk if no extra measures are taken. However, our system encrypts your personal information using a unique key, which is generated for each smartphone. Thus, there is no need to worry about hacking or exposure of your personal information.

Q. In what situations might Music Share be used?
It could be useful on a trip with family or friends, where you might want to share a Bluetooth speaker with anyone in the car. You might also be listening to your favorite song at a friend’s house or a party, and you can use Music Share to play directly on your friend’s Bluetooth without the hassle of the pairing process.

Q. Any last comment for the users?
I’ve been developing Bluetooth solutions for a long time now, but the Music Share feature is something I want to strongly recommend. I am very proud that the use of Bluetooth has become much easier and I’d definitely recommend Galaxy users try it out.

[Buds Together]

Q. What is Buds Together?
Buds Together is a feature that lets you hear sounds from your smartphone with two sets of Galaxy Buds. You can easily connect them without needing a complicated setup.

Q. Why did you develop Buds Together?
There recently have been a lot of users switching from wired to wireless earphones.

In movies or even everyday on the bus, we used to see people splitting their wired earphones by listening on one side, or using an accessory called the Y-jack to connect two separate wired earphones. We determined that this usability could be sustained for wireless earphones as well, which is why we started developing the Buds Together feature.

Q. How do you run Buds Together?
To use Buds Together, you need to enter your media panel and click on Music Share. Here, you can search for your friend’s Galaxy Buds. Once your friend accepts the connection request, you can listen to the same music together.

Q. Was there anything you had to reconsider during the development process?
If the function of listening to the same music with a friend is “Buds Together,” you might think that it’s a simple process of connecting your phone’s media with your Buds and your friend’s Buds. However, the development process required a lot of thought for what to do when your friend’s phone rings, when a notification pops up, or a new message is received.

Normally, if we receive a call while listening to music, we would answer the phone with Buds. That’s why we decided to pause the media, proceed with the call, and resume the media to play after the call ends.

Q. Any last comment for the users?
I hope that Buds Together will become a feature used to share special memories while listening to good music with friends and family.

[SmartThings Find]

Q. What motivated you to develop SmartThings Find?
Because of the use of so many devices, the frequency of losing them has increased. Based on this analysis, we planned and developed a service where users could find their devices easily through SmartThings Find.

Q. How does the SmartThings Find feature find a lost device?
Once you enter the SmartThings app, you can install and run SmartThings Find, and see your registered devices. When the device is separated from the smartphone, it will emit an “I’m here” BLE signal indicating where it is, so that nearby Galaxy devices with the offline search turned on will receive a signal and upload it to the SmartThings cloud or you can check it in the SmartThings Find app.

Q. What is the farthest a device can be found?
There is no fixed range for device search, and even if the device is on the other side of the world, you can check its location in the SmartThings app.

[Galaxy SmartTag]

Q. What is the development background of the Galaxy SmartTag?
Communication devices such as Galaxy Buds or Watch can be found with SmartThings Find, but items like purses, pets, wallets and backpacks can’t be because they can’t communicate. So, we developed the Galaxy SmartTag which would generate a BLE signal, enabling users to find whatever is lost on SmartThings Find, when the item has the tag attached.

Q. How does the Galaxy SmartTag work?
The Galaxy SmartTag registered on the smartphone generates a BLE signal on its own when the connection to the smartphone is disconnected, and the nearby Galaxy devices that have offline search turned on will upload the location after detecting the BLE signal. Then, you can find the location through the SmartThings app.

If you click on the SmartThings app, you can check your registered Galaxy SmartTags and Find Service card. After entering, you will see a map of where the Galaxy SmartTag is registered. If you click the button ‘Navigate near me,’ the signal strength increases as you get closer to the Galaxy SmartTag. You can see how far you are from it through the graphic. If you are far away from the Galaxy SmartTag, the signal strength will be weak. As you get closer, you can see the signal strength get stronger as well. If you still can’t find it even though the signal is strong, it can be found through a ringing sound. With this sound, you can easily locate your Galaxy SmartTag.

Q. I heard you can also find your smartphone with the Galaxy SmartTag. Is this true?
You might have lost your smartphone at least once while you were out. With the Galaxy SmartTag, you can easily find it by ringing a sound on your smartphone. Let me show you. Like this, you can easily find your smartphone with the sound, even if it is nowhere to be seen.

Q. Is there another use case for the SmartTag?
If you have your TV registered with SmartThings, you can press it once to turn on the TV, and also press it for a few seconds to turn the TV off. You can control the power on/off functions as long as you set them accordingly.

Q. Is it secure when sending and receiving information between devices?
You don’t have to worry about security because we do not store information about nearby Galaxy devices that help you. Especially in the case of Galaxy SmartTag ID or personally identifiable information, all of the information is anonymized and encrypted.

Q. Any last comment for the users?
I hope that SmartThings Find can help you not worry about losing a device. Even if you do lose something, you can use it to check locations easily and quickly. We will continue to analyze what kinds of functions to include in the future to increase convenience for users. Please stay tuned.
