Important milestone of bada powered smartphone, now commercially available with a range of upgraded Samsung Apps content
Seoul, Korea, November 28, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced the commercial availability of its flagship 4” Wave 3 smartphone. Initially launching in France, it will be rolled out to Germany, Italy, Russia and other global markets within this year.
“The Wave 3 is a smartphone to benefit from the power of the bada 2.0, as well as a newly expanded suite of Samsung applications and services. We will continue to enhance our bada platform and its eco system for Wave smartphone line-up by developing more innovative features, application and content services,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business. “We believe the Wave 3 is a smartphone that will truly deliver Samsung’s commitment to the bada platform in the mobile industry, and I hope customers around the world will enjoy it and take full advantage of its many innovative features.”
Style and Performance
Building on the Wave series’ style heritage, the Samsung Wave 3 is a beautifully designed smartphone contained within a unique 9.9mm full metal casing. Stylishly constructed with anodized brushed aluminum, the slim yet solid unibody design supports users’ active, on-the-move lifestyles.
The Wave 3 is powered by an impressive 1.4GHz processor and HSPA 14.4 Mbps connectivity which truly transforms the user experience with smooth screen transitions and ultra-fast download speeds. Embedded HD video capability ensures users enjoy high resolution video anywhere and anytime, and playback on DivX codec offers crystal clear images so you can experience the best of mobile video.
Fast and Smart with bada 2.0
The Wave 3 runs on Samsung’s bada 2.0, offering a unique user experience by balancing Touchwiz UX and the bada platform. Personalization capabilities are enhanced together with true multitasking that enables users to activate and render multiple applications at once. The Live Panel home screen can be customized with instant shortcuts to the content and applications that matter most. Management of on-screen folders—supported by unique 3D visual access, multi-touch features and tab-and-drag previews—has never been easier or more intuitive. Meanwhile, the device’s integrated WiFi Direct feature saves users the trouble of tracking down a wireless hotspot by directly connecting to other WiFi devices.
Enhanced Apps and Services to Enrich your Social Life
The Wave 3 enables access to tens of thousands of localized applications through Samsung’s dedicated application store, Samsung Apps. With the new bada 2.0-powered smartphone, Samsung Apps has been enhanced with an improved user interface, updated purchasing options and a personalized app recommendation service. A newly enhanced Social Hub 2.0 service helps users stay on top of their busy, active social lives, integrating messaging, SNS and emails with phonebook and calendar information for instant social networking; and displaying all social interactions in a single portal. An integrated Store & Player, Music Hub offers a full music store experience with access to over 12 million tracks and ability to fully personalize users’ own music catalogues.
The Wave 3 also includes ChatON, Samsung’s cross-platform communication service that connects all mobile users into a single community. With easy sign-in that requires no passwords or IDs, ChatON integrates directly with users’ contact information to enable spontaneous chatting in seconds; and enables sharing of content in multiple formats—images, video, voice, contacts, calendar—to make messaging simpler and faster than ever. ChatON’s Group Chat feature also allows users to communicate with multiple contacts at once—anytime, anywhere.
With the launch of the Wave 3, Samsung has introduced a range of exciting new 3D Game and LBS related apps that take full advantage of the updated bada 2.0 OS and new hardware features such as Wi-Fi Direct and voice recognition. Spanning a diverse range of categories including gaming, entertainment, education and utilities, Samsung Apps will celebrate the launch of bada 2.0 by providing exclusive free downloads of Camcard, Skyview and The Adventures of Tintin: The Game for a limited time.
Additionally, Samsung is hosting a global app contest, the ‘bada 2.0 Power App Race’. The competition is designed to encourage the bada developer community by rewarding the best bada 2.0 apps with a $1,000,000 cash prize. ‘bada 2.0 Power App Race’ winner will be decided by the public, with the top 10 best-selling applications in Samsung Apps determining the result. Developers can participate via the bada developer site (developer.bada.com/) after registering for the contest by Dec. 31.
