SEOUL, Korea – May 19, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd., today announced an agreement to provide its comprehensive B2B educational products and solution packages to 20 pilot schools in Trinidad and Tobago. Samsung will demonstrate its education solution package and KNOX solution at the Virtual Educa Carribean 2014 Symposium between May 19-20 in Trinidad and Tobago. Virtual Educa is a multilateral, ground-breaking initiative designed to explore new and emerging education models and innovative education systems.

The full education package includes the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) tablets supported by the Samsung KNOX EMM solution, along with the Samsung School solution and the Samsung Mobile Care program. In addition, other education-focused products, such as Samsung’s Note PC, Interactive White Board with Touch support, and Tablet Charging Rack, will be provided.

As part of the first phase, Samsung’s education solution package will be installed in six pilot school sites by the end of May, including Clarke Road Hindu primary school and Presentation College Chaguanas secondary school, and will be rolled out to the remaining 14 schools by the end of July 2014. Samsung’s education solution package will gradually be expanded across the entire school system in Trinidad and Tobago throughout the rest of the year.

The Samsung School solution includes features to help teachers manage their classrooms and increase student participation, such as screen monitoring to track students’ academic progress, provision of private tutoring programs according to each student’s comprehension level, and a lesson toolbar that allows teachers to effectively apply various, interesting educational applications through the Samsung School interactive lesson functionalities . For students, the Samsung School solution allows them to participate in discussion and group projects in a collaborative manner, using tools such as separable canvas, group discussion, and group report. It also helps students retain focus with tools such as screen sharing to share lesson contents on student devices, while quiz and poll helps teachers quickly assess how well students comprehend lessons and provides immediate feedback with a diverse range of engaging questions.

“In collaboration with Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Education, Samsung is pleased to provide a total technology solution to help them improve the standard of education across the country,” said Hyunchil Hong, Vice President, Samsung Electronics Latin America. “This is the first time we have provided our total B2B solution package in Latin America, and we are committed to working with the Ministry of Education to develop this project. With the success of this pilot, we plan to expand to other markets in Latin America to help schools with fewer resources adopt the digital tools they need to provide their teachers and students with a better learning environment.”

“KNOX EMM is Samsung’s cloud-based Mobile Device Management solution which allows better security and policy management. This pilot program is representative, as it is the first time KNOX EMM has been implemented in the market since its recent commercial launch,” said Injong Rhee, Senior Vice President of KNOX Business, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “School IT Administrators can easily manage student devices using KNOX EMM. Through the installation of educational applications by the IT Administrator, KNOX EMM will contribute to building a secure smart education environment, locating lost devices or by blocking access of harmful content.”

“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago and its Ministry of Education warmly embrace the initiative of Samsung Electronics to provide a comprehensive ICT educational product and solution package to 20 schools across Trinidad and Tobago,” said Tim Gopeesingh, Minister of Education of Trinidad and Tobago.

“Over the past four years, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has provided over 75,000 laptop computers to secondary school students, as well as approximately 4,000 to principals, teachers, and school supervisors, and operates and maintains computer labs in all secondary schools and over 300 primary schools, all of which are technically supported by appropriately trained ICT personnel. Consistent with the Ministry of Education's thrust in the use of ICT for teaching and learning and our government's public-private partnerships and collaboration with international organizations, we thank Samsung Electronics for aiding in our progressive use of ICT to prepare our children for the world.”

At the Virtual Educa Caribbean 2014 Symposium, the largest ICT in education Symposium in the English-speaking Caribbean, Samsung will engage with education ministers from 18 Latin American countries to explore future opportunities for digital educational empowerment.
